Thus, the desktop on my PC has become a virtual, gigantic, to-do sticky note. Really, I actually have a sticky note app, and they're all over the desktop on my PC.
To top it off, and I'm very pleased with this (doing my happy clap and everything), I've started working on my next novel. Real writing, with real words! No outlines, no character interviews, actual writing! I'm not participating in NaNo, but decided a few weeks ago to take on the NaNo mentality. To get as many words on paper, as quickly as I can. With the amount of time I can set aside for daily writing, being anywhere close to a finished novel in 30 days is so ridiculous it's laughable. But that doesn't mean I can't try to achieve the same strides in the time I do have.
One of the reasons I wanted to take on a tweaked version of NaNo, was because I'm trying very hard to focus more on my writing career; meaning, actually making it a career. I'm more than thrilled with the goals I have reached thus far, but I want more. There's a difference between squeezing writing in when I can, and actually making a career out of it. And I thought, really forcing myself to concentrate on cranking out more content would be a great start to achieve a real, grown-up career.
Now, that's not to say that the words on the page for my WIP are any good. I have no idea. They probably suck. All first drafts suck. But, that's another thing I'm excited to be working on. Squashing my obsessive need to re-read everything, over, and over, and over. Picking and tweaking until my eyes bleed. For some people, that method works. They can still churn out a lot of content when doing that. Me? Not so much. This is a perfect opportunity to work on that, too.
So, on this crazy Monday, I'm actually excited about today's to-do list. I have three writing contests to enter, a lot of writing to get done, and absolutely nothing standing in my way. Today is a good day.
Now, what about you guys? What does this Monday have in store for you? Are you participating in NaNo? Are you cursing at your muse? Did you put her in a timeout for not cooperating?
